Kite flying festival, Mysore, 21 Oct 2012

Read about this event, which was held as a part of the Dussera festival celebrations in town. Kites hold a special place in my life. A reminder of the days in Goa, the golden days of childhood :) when we would fly kites from a small hill near home. Needless to say, there I was , near the helipad, with my camera. Boy was it a great time! The skies were a bit overcast initially. And when the kites began to fly, the sky was a riot of colours. Kites of all shapes and sizes. Enthusiastic kite flyers, right from the neighbourhood kid to the professional, not vying for honours but rather to make us all go 'whoa!'. When was the last time you flew a kite?

Check it out:

Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
Flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone, my senses reel

The ship of dreams floats high in the sky.
It leaves a trail of stars as it glides by.
We watch in hope, eyes blurry in a haze.
The mother ship will answer all of my dreams, and yours too.

Just hop in :)
My favourite kite!
This guy was 'The guy'. He had the most epic kites in the event. He told us, "I am not here to paricipate, I just want people to enjoy these kites" :)
